Charles Remien
I am a Ph.D. candidate in Economics at George Mason University, with completed fields in Public Choice, New Institutional Economics/Economic Development, and Law & Economics. My current research focuses on fertility and family economics, applying tools from public choice and law and economics to questions of population decline and family policy.

About me
I am an economist working on questions in fertility and family economics. My dissertation, “Essays Analyzing Family Policy and Trade Utilizing the Synthetic Control Method,” studies how policy interventions reshape family formation and international trade, using the synthetic control method to construct data-driven counterfactuals from historical and cross-national data.
I expect to complete my Ph.D. in May 2027. I am available for interviews throughout the 2026–2027 academic job-market season.
